Steel bar grating, known for its high strength and robust structure, is manufactured from carbon steel, aluminum, or stainless steel. Depending on the production method, steel grating can be categorized into four types: welded bar grating, press-locked grating, swage-locked grating, and riveted grating. Based on surface design, it is available in both smooth and serrated options. With a wide range of styles and sizes, steel grating serves versatile applications in everyday life, including stair treads, walkways, platforms, flooring, trench covers, wheeled equipment, security screens, and heavy-duty constructions. 
 

Welded bar grating   Welded bar grating is also called metal open bar grating. Welded bar grating, also known as metal open bar grating, comes in two types: smooth and serrated. Smooth, or plain steel bar grating, is more popular, but serrated grating offers better skid resistance.

Press Lock Grating   Made from low carbon steel, stainless steel, or aluminum, is created by bonding slotted bars under hydraulic pressure. It's strong, durable, and widely used in industrial and commercial applications like stair treads, platforms, walkways, and covers. Serrated surfaces enhance anti-slip properties.

Swage Locked Grating   Swage locked grating, mainly made of aluminum or stainless steel bars, is formed by inserting cross bars into pre-punched bearing bars and locking them under hydraulic pressure. It comes in three bearing bar types: rectangular, T, and I bars, with I bars being lighter and more affordable.

Plain(Flat) bar grating

One of the most widely used grating types due to its versatility, durability, and cost-effectiveness. Typically made from carbon steel or stainless steel, it features a smooth, flat surface ideal for applications requiring load-bearing strength and stability. Plain bar grating is commonly used in industrial flooring, walkways, drainage pit covers, stair treads, platforms, and ventilation grilles. Its open grid design allows for efficient drainage and ventilation, making it suitable for both indoor and outdoor environments. It provides a safe and sturdy walking surface while offering low maintenance and long-term reliability.

 

Serrated bar grating

Serrated steel grating is designed with serrated edges on the bearing bars, which provides enhanced non-slip performance and increased safety compared to plain grating. This makes it an ideal choice for environments where slip resistance is crucial, such as industrial platforms, walkways, stair treads, and areas exposed to wet or oily conditions. In addition to its excellent anti-slip properties, serrated steel grating is durable, resistant to corrosion when galvanized, and offers high load-bearing capacity, making it suitable for both heavy-duty and light-duty applications.

Also known as pressed or pressure lock grating, is manufactured from low carbon steel, stainless steel, or aluminum. It is made by bonding two precisely slotted bars together under tremendous hydraulic pressure, creating a permanent, secure lock. Known for its high strength and solid structure, press-lock grating is widely used in industrial plants, commercial buildings, and municipal engineering projects. Common applications include stair treads, platforms, walkways, security screens, tree and trench covers, and drainage covers. For enhanced slip resistance, serrated surfaces are also available.

Full Grating Full grating gets its name because both the bearing and cross bars have the same cross-section and equal height. The bearing bars are fully supported with unslotted undersides. Compared to standard press-locked grating, it offers better screening and a more appealing design.

Heavy duty grating Heavy duty grating is a press-locked grating with deep, thick bearing bars for heavy loads. It withstands over 50 tonnes of surface load and 10 tonnes of wheel load, thanks to counter gear teeth for added stability. The design is customized for the application, with high-grade steel options available.

Louvre grating Louvre grating is used where less transparency is needed, for floors, sun shields, ventilation grilles, facades, and ceilings. Weijia offers steel, aluminum, and high-grade steel options with cross bars angled at 15°, 30°, or 45°.

Aluminum bar grating

Swage-locked aluminum grating is made using either "I" or rectangular bearing bars. These bars are permanently secured to the cross rods through a swaging process that reshapes the rods for a strong connection. The wider flange of I-bars reduces the open space of the grating, while still being lighter and more cost-effective than rectangular bars of the same thickness, offering an efficient balance between strength and weight.

Rectangular bar grating   It offers the same strength as aluminum pressure-locked grating but at a slightly lower cost. The cross bars are swaged to secure the bearing bars, providing high strength and rigidity in a lightweight, virtually maintenance-free aluminum grating.

I-Bar grating I-Bar grating is the lightest and most cost-effective aluminum grating. With high strength and slip-resistant striated bearing bars, it's an excellent choice when budget and economy are key considerations.

Pickling


High-grade steel grating is typically pickled after production to remove scale and discoloration caused by welding, which can lead to corrosion. During the pickling process, the grating is submerged in a bath that cleanses the surface, leaving it metallically pure and corrosion-resistant.

Hot dip galvanizing


Hot-dipped galvanized steel grating involves submerging the steel grating in molten zinc, a process called galvanization. This forms a strong metallurgical bond between the zinc and the steel, resulting in a durable, corrosion-resistant protective layer.

Powder coating
 

Powder coating is a cost-effective, durable way to color grating. The process includes degreasing, pickling, zinc-phosphating, and electrostatic powder application, then baking at 180°C. For enhanced corrosion protection, this coating combines hot-dip galvanizing with powder coating. Available in all RAL colors, with different gloss levels and textures.
